About the Position: Orinda’s Education and Outreach Coordinator is a newly created full time position with a community-wide focus on educating residents and motivating them to mitigate fire risk.  Funded by Measure R, a sales tax voted in by the residents of Orinda to protect lives and property in our town, this position is an opportunity for a creative and highly productive professional to truly make a difference.

The person in this role will partner closely with other organizations such as the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD), the Orinda Firewise Council, Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Orinda schools and parents’ clubs and others to create, coordinate and disseminate information to the public and media.  This individual will be a linchpin in sparking community action and will be a critical success factor in many of our programs.

Position Requirements:  All City of Orinda employees are expected to uphold and exhibit the City’s core values including serving the public, being respectful and accountable, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating responsibility.

The City seeks a creative, team-oriented, proactive individual who can clearly demonstrate that they have the stated background and competencies.  Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  In addition to the minimum qualifications below, the successful candidate must have an intuitive understanding of the intersection between policy, communications, and community outreach.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field.

License:  Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.

Special Requirements:  Ability to travel to different sites and locations including outdoor field sites as required to complete project duties and tasks.  The Coordinator will occasionally be required to work nights and/or weekends for scheduled committee meetings, community engagement events or unplanned emergencies.

Qualified individuals must submit an online application, a cover letter and the required supplemental questionnaire responses online at
